Serbia become the latest Nation to be represented at the LDN9s

Red Star Belgrade, the Balkan RL Champions, will fly the flag for their country.

The ground breaking Club, have fond memories of the LDN9s, as they recorded their first ever win on English soil at the 2018 Tournament.

Fans of Rugby League will also be aware that this expansionist Club created another historic milestone, earlier this year, when they competed in the first round of the Challenge Cup, as the newest team entry and first Balkan State to be represented in the annual Tournament.

Ironically they were pitted against the oldest amateur RL Club, in Millom RLFC in Cumbria. The Wooly Backs warmed to them immediately as the Serbian Boys spent time to indulge in coaching clinics with the local community, and drew 100s of Serbian fans from across the UK who travelled to Cumbria to cheer their team.

LDN9s promoter Graham Oliphant was quick to celebrate their inclusion in the LDN9s-  “It’s a pleasure to once again see the Rugby League arm of the Red Star dynasty expanding the footprint of Rugby League. And what a fitting story for the team who made history in the 1st round of the Challenge Cup, to be at Wembley, for the concluding Challenge Cup weekend, and at the LDN9s the next day, to bring their amazing journey full circle”.

Red Star MD Colin Kleyweg, who himself will be travelling over form Australia to support the team at the London League Weekend in August, was keen to make clear this will not be just a tourist trip-  “We are thrilled to be seeing our Serbian heritage supporters again, and we are coming to London, the Capital, with the intention of winning the ‘Open Men’s' section, and returning to Belgrade with silverware.”

With the LDN9s 2019 being LIVE STREAMED, organisers anticipate over 30,000 viewers just from the Balkan States alone. The inclusion of teams from the USA and African nations show total projected viewing figures at 100,000 + over the course of the day.
